SAN ANTONIO, Texas (September 24, 2016) - The Texas A&M International University Volleyball team took on St. Mary's on Saturday. TAMIU took the Rattlers to five sets before being defeated 2-3. The Dustdevils are now 0-12 overall (0-3 HC).
The Dustdevils found themselves in their closest battle of the 2016 campaign, playing five sets (16-25, 25-21, 22-25, 25-21, 8-15). TAMIU evened the match at one, scoring six straight points to claim the second set 25-21.
TAMIU took an early 4-0 lead in the fourth set and never surrendered the lead. Despite a late push, TAMIU scored the final three points, claiming the fourth set 25-21.
The Dustdevils looked to pick up their first win of the season in the fifth set. The Rattlers would take a three point advantage early, winning the deciding set and the match.
Alexis Villa picked up a triple-double with 11 kills, 28 assists, and 17 digs.
Ramey Gardner recorded 11 digs, coupled with 11 kills. Gardner,
Samantha Gonzalez, and
Nadiah Fry each recorded three blocks.
Head Coach
Susie Jangada commented after the game, "We had a really good week of practice last week which helped us to advance as a team today. A lot of improvement showed in our girls. Unfortunatley, we just missed getting the win but this event will prove very useful in matches to come the rest of this season."
The Dustdevils continue play on the road with a matchup against Oklahoma Panhandle State on Thursday, September 29. The match will take place in Goodwell, Oklahoma and is set to begin at 7 pm CST.
