LAREDO, Texas (September 8, 2016) -- A full team effort from the Dustdevils held Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association opponent No. 20 Fort Hays State scoreless through almost 110 minutes of play on Thursday night. The Dustdevils fell in the dying seconds of the match to the Tigers, 1-2, during their first regular season contest at home for the 2016 season. The Dustdevils move to 1-2-0 overall in regular season play.
The lone Dustdevil goal was scored as an own goal by FHSU, after Senior
Ryan Hodgson struck a shot into the Tiger's keeper on a pass from
Alan Rivera. The goal came in the 65th minute to tie the contest.
The Dustdevils defensive held the No. 20 ranked Tigers throughout the contest, keeping their offense at bay through the duration of regulation and both overtimes. The Tigers saw an opportunity with two seconds left which gave them the win.
"It was a great game to watch and coach," said Head Coach
Claudio Arias. "I am very proud of the boys' efforts."
