SAN ANTONIO, Texas (January 14, 2017) - The Texas A&M International University Men's Basketball team closed out a three-game road trip with a 51-45 win over St. Mary's on Saturday. The Dustdevil win moves TAMIU to 11-6 overall (5-2 Heartland Conference).
First Half:
A low scoring first half saw the Dustdevils and Rattlers combine for 38 total points. TAMIU held a lead through 12 minutes of play before the Rattlers were able to take their first lead. The Dustdevils were able to push their first half lead to five with 11:01 remaining. STMU would hold the advantage for the final seven minutes of play, pushing the halftime gap to six.
Bunja Yaboe led the Dustdevils with six points and four rebounds through 20 minutes of action.
Second Half:
The Dustdevils would bring the game within one point with 13 minutes remaining in regulation, later tying the game at 34 with 7:47 remaining. TAMIU would take a two-point advantage with :13 remaining in regulation but a Rattler basket with :05 on the clock would again knot the game. The teams finished regulation play tied at 39.
Overtime:
After a back and forth game for 40 minutes, TAMIU outscored the Rattler 12-6 in the overtime period, picking up Heartland Conference win number five.
Kenny Hatch,
Jordan VanDeKop, and
Deveino McRae each scored four points in the overtime period, leading TAMIU to the win.
McRae finished the afternoon with 15 points, a career high in his two seasons with the Dustdevils. McRae picked up a double-double, adding 13 rebounds to his effort.
Kenny Hatch finished the afternoon with 11 points, five rebounds, and three assists.

The Dustdevils return home for a two-game home stand on Thursday, January 19. TAMIU hosts Newman University in the TAMIU KCB at 7:30pm CST.
