Dustdevils, Hilltoppers Set to Play on Thursday Night

LAREDO, Texas (October 25, 2017) –
The Texas A&M International women's soccer team finish off the 2017 regular season this week starting with a match at home against St. Edward's on Thursday, Oct. 26. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at Dustdevil Soccer Field and fans wearing their favorite soccer jersey will receive free admission.
 
The Dustdevils (3-10-1, 2-9-1 HC) finish the season at home for the first time since 2013 when they hosted SEU and McMurry. A win on either Thursday or Saturday would mark the first time TAMIU has won four matches in a season since 2014 when they went 7-7-1. The Hilltoppers (9-3-4, 7-2-3) outscored opponents 9-0 in their two wins last week after dropping three of their four previous matches. The Hilltoppers have already clinched their spot in the conference tournament and are one point behind Rogers State for second place.

A LOOK AT THE ALL-TIME SERIES
Thursday's match will be the 24th meeting between the two programs with SEU leading the all-time series 23-1-0. The Dustdevils lone victory in the series came on Oct. 29, 2015 in Austin.
 
THE LAST TIME AROUND
The Dustdevils allowed three first half goals in a 4-0 loss to the Hilltoppers on Sept. 30 in Austin. TAMIU was held to six shots, four of those coming from Cio Bargallo, as India Wentz scored twice for SEU with Madison Tumicki and Elianna Chavez also getting on the score sheet.
 
A LOOK AT THE HILLTOPPERS
Nick Cowell (400-124-41) earned his 400th career victory in the Hilltoppers' 3-0 victory over Lubbock Christian on Saturday. The 12th year head coach has his team in third place in the conference heading into the final weekend of the season after getting off to a 7-0-3 start and reaching as high as fourth in the national rankings.
 
Wentz's is the leading goal scorer for the Hilttopers with five while Viktoria Malmros has four of her own as a total of 14 different players have scored. Wentz also leads the team in assists (7) and points (17) while Jenna Lipscomb and Kelly Andrus have four assists each for the second-most on the team.
 
Ocoee Wilson has been of the top goalies in the nation so far in 2017 ranking in the Top-20 nationally in save percentage and goals against average. The sophomore keeper ranks 11th in GAA (.423) while she has stopped 87% of the shots she has faced. She also ranks 25th in the goalie minutes played recording 10 shutouts.
 
STATS WATCH
Monica Castro ranks fourth in the conference with five assists as she is one of eight players with five or more assists. She also ranks fifth in assists per game (.333).
 
Chanell Massy and Laura Tonkin made their season debuts on Saturday against Newman. Massy appeared in 15 matches in 2016 while Tonkin made her first career appearance at TAMIU.
 
Bargallo ranks eighth in the nation in goals per game (1.07), ninth in total goals (16) and 14th in total points (32). She also became the first player in program history to score 10 or more goals in conference with her 11th minute goal against Newman on Saturday.
 
HEARTLAND IN THE RANKINGS
The Heartland Conference was not represented in the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division II Women's National Poll for the second straight week. In the Massey Ratings, Dallas Baptist moved up 14 spots to 15th while Rogers State mad a huge move up to 30th while SEU sits at 32nd.

The Dustdevils will honor two seniors when they host Dallas Baptist on Saturday, Oct. 28. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m.
