Colmenares, Moreno to be Honored as Dustdevils Host DBU

LAREDO, Texas (October 27, 2017) –
The Texas A&M International University women's soccer team will finish its 2017 season on Saturday, Oct. 28, hosting Dallas Baptist at Dustdevil Soccer Field. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. as the Dustdevils will honor seniors, Abigail Colmenares and Jaquelinn Moreno, before the match.
 
The Dustdevils (3-11-2, 2-10-1 HC) have their sights on finishing the season on a high-note after dropping their last three contests by a combined 11-2. A win on Saturday would mark the first time since 2003 that TAMIU has won their season finale. The Patriots (12-3-2) clinched the Heartland Conference regular season championships with a 3-0 victory over St. Mary's and will host the tournament next week. They enter Saturday on a four match winning streak with three of those coming via shutout.

A LOOK AT THE ALL-TIME SERIES
Saturday's match will be the 25th meeting between the two programs with DBU leading the series 21-2-1. The Dustdevils have dropped three straight after holding a Patriots team that went to the Elite Eight to a 0-0 draw on Oct. 31, 2015.
 
THE LAST TIME AROUND
The Dustdevils dropped a 1-0 contest to DBU on Sept. 28 in Dallas as Kaci Parks scored the lone goal of the match right before halftime on an assist from Emma Durain.  
 
A LOOK AT THE PATRIOTS
Michelle Leonard (137-66-14) has led DBU to their second Heartland Conference regular season title in three years after finishing second to St. Edward's last season. Leonard has the Patriots poised to make the NCAA postseason for the sixth time in seven years as they rank fifth in the latest NCAA Regional Rankings.
 
DBU has outscored opponents 35-10 in 2017 with 15 different players having scored at least one goal. Brittany Eccles has a team-high six goals in 961 minutes of action with Kaci Parks scoring four of her own. Parks also has contributed a team-high six assists for a team-high 14 points. Delaney Schmidt is one of the top freshmen in the conference having scoring three goals and three assists from her defensive position.
 
Hope Koym has been stellar in goal for DBU as the sophomore ranks 32nd nationally in goals against average (.606). She also ranks 42nd in goalie minutes played having made 47 saves allowing 10 goals for a save percentage of .831. 
 
STATS WATCH
With her 17th goal of the season on Thursday night against St. Edward's, Cio Bargallo moved into the top five for most goals scored in a single season in Heartland Conference history.
 
Bargallo's 23 career goals are the second most in school history trailing only Erika Alcaraz's (2002-05) 29. Her 46 points rank her third behind Alcaraz and Kim Garcias (2012-15).
 
Bargallo needs four shots to break her own school record for most shots in single season. Her 62 shots with one match remaining make her the only player in program history to eclipse the 60 shot mark twice in a career.
 
Monica Castro and Valeria Macias are the first Dustdevil duo to have three or more assists in a season since Karina Garcia and Rebecca Bell did it in 2014.
 
SENIOR SPOTLIGHT
The Dustdevils will honor seniors, Abigail Colmenares and Jaquelinn Moreno, before their match on Saturday. The two seniors have combined to play in more than 55 matches and 3,000 minutes during their respective careers.
 
Colmenares has been a constant fixture in the midfield for TAMIU since joining the program in 2016 after two years at Mt. Sac College in Walnut, Calif. The La Puente, Calif. Native has appeared in 30 matches including 28 starts with 16 shots placing eight of those on-target. Moreno has played at both right and left back during her two-years at TAMIU making 27 appearances and seven starts. The Laredo, Texas product played a career-high 97 minutes earlier this season against Rogers State. 
 
HEARTLAND IN THE RANKINGS
The Heartland Conference was not represented in the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division II Women's National Poll for the second straight week. In the Massey Ratings, Dallas Baptist moved up 14 spots to 15th while Rogers State mad a huge move up to 30th while SEU sits at 32nd.
