Five newcomers highlight Men's Soccer Signing Day

LAREDO, Texas (February 13, 2017) - The Texas A&M International University Men's Soccer team announced five signees for the 2017 season on Monday. 

Carlos Herrera
Position: Goalkeeper
Class: Junior Transfer
GPA: 3.2
Carlos Herrera played varsity soccer 4 years at San Leandro High School in Ca. In his junior year Carlos received the runner up mvp for his High School and led his team to the playoffs for the first time in school history.

In his senior at San Leandro Herrera led his high school to their first league championship ever and second round playoffs. That year he won the mvp award for the league, had the least goals scored against and most clean sheets in the east bay High School league for 2015.
Herrera played club soccer for Juventus Heat SC in redwood city, Ca.  The team ranked 1st in the nation, region, and state for many months, winning several tournaments, including the internationally recognized Dallas Cup.

Herrera made NJCAA national tournament two years in a row with Iowa Western Community College and received all conference honors.
Herrera also played as a GK with the Little Rock Rangers on the Professional Development League receiving all-conference honors.
 
Joshua Jones
Position: Goalkeeper
Class: Junior Transfer
GPA: 3.4
Joshua started his soccer career at 9 years of age playing for Wath St James soccer club. He also played for Doncaster Rovers Youth academy, and  Handsworth Parramore FC. Jones won the league cup with my Handsworth Parramore FC 3 years in a row , along with finishing 4th at the national tournament and winning the sportsmanship of the year and the managers player of the year awards.

Before coming to the United States Jones played his season in England for Swinton Athletic FC where he won league title. Jones finished his final season in England winning 8 trophies with 4 different teams. Jones was a starting freshman at western Texas college for the past two years, making the all-tournament and all-regional teams , and finishing ranked 9th in the national Goalkeeper leaderboard. Jones was made captain his sophomore year, and won the regular season conference with WTC.
 
Aaron Alvarez 

Position: Forward
Class: Freshman
GPA: 3.2
 
Aaron is a three-year letter winner at United High School. Aaron led the team in scoring as a junior with 15 goals and 8 assists. He was also named to the All-District 1st team as a junior. He currently leads the team in scoring with 11 goals.
 
Emmanuel Garcia
Position: Midfielder
Class: Junior Transfer.
GPA: 3.1
Emmanuel Garcia was a 4-year letter winner at Rivera High School. While at Rivera High School Garcia led his team to regional play in 4 consecutive seasons being named District MVP. Garcia also played for the Laredo Community for 2 seasons where he was named captain of the team and to the NJCAA All Region 14 team during both of his years with the Palominos.
 
Guillermo "Billy" Sanchez
Position: Defender
Class: Freshman
GPA: 3.8
 
Billy is a two year letter winner at  Del Norte High School in San Diego, Ca. Sanchez also plays for the San Diego Soccer academy. Billy spent 2 years in the youth system of first division Chilean team "Huachipato" being part of the team that won the region and advanced to the quarterfinals of the national tournament.
