LAREDO, Texas (February 20, 2017) - The Texas A&M International University Softball hosted Tarleton State for the 2017 home opener on Monday. The Dustdevils were dealt a 3-10 loss in game one before downing the Texann's in game two 3-2. TAMIU is now 5-9 overall.
Game 1: TAMIU 3 - Tarleton 10
The Dustdevils jumped ahead early in game one, plating two runs in the first inning.
Erika Sanchez got the scoring started for TAMIU, driving in Robi Kami and
Alyssa Acuna on a two RBI single to right field.
Tarleton would answer with three runs in the second and five in the fourth to take an 8-3 lead.
The Texann's pushed the lead to seven in the sixth before TAMIU cut back into the lead, plating a run in the bottom of the inning.
Brandi Giles sent a solo home run over the left field wall to cut the lead to six after six complete innings.
Tarleton added a run in the seventh, leading to the final score of 3-10.
Delainy Thompson took the loss in game one, falling to 2-4.
Tori Carrion tossed the final inning for TAMIU picking up a strikeout.
Game 2: TAMIU 3 - Tarleton 2
After three and a half scoreless innings, TAMIU broke into the run column in the fourth.
Brenda Parnin would score the game's first run after an error in the outfield on a ball hit by
Robi Kami.
The Texann's would take the lead in the fifth plating two runs. The game would stay in favor of Tarleton at 2-1 through the top of the seventh, before TAMIU put together a comeback effort.
Pinch runner, Amanda Hinojosa evened the game at two on a Texann error. With two outs and runners on first and second,
Taylor Vines sent a walk-off single through the infield, scoring
Jenelle Rodriguez.
Brandi Giles picked up the complete game win, her first of the season. Giles allowed just one earned run, scattering nine hits over seven innings. Giles picked up five strikeouts in the win.

The Dustdevils remain at home for their next two contests. TAMIU hosts Texas A&M Kingsville on Tuesday, February 21. The teams will play two games on Tuesday afternoon with first pitch set for 12pm.
