LAREDO, Texas (February 21, 2017) - The Texas A&M International University Softball team hosted Texas A&M Kingsville for a double header at the Dustdevil Softball Field on Tuesday. The Dustdevils were dealt a 4-6 loss in game one, falling 1-4 in game two. TAMIU moves to 5-11 overall.
Game 1: TAMIU 4 - TAMUK 6
The Dustdevils continued to score first in game one on Tuesday.
Cassie Cannon came around to score in the first inning to give TAMIU an early 1-0 advantage. The Javelinas would use a second inning homerun to even the game before TAMIU regained the lead in the bottom of the inning.
Sara Caterson tripled to score
Erika Sanchez, putting the Dustdevils ahead 2-1. Kingsville would score twice in the sixth and seventh to open a 6-2 lead. TAMIU would score twice in the seventh to bring the game within two before the final out was recorded.
Caterson took the loss in the circle, tossing six innings. Caterson picked up an RBI in the game.
Tori Carrion threw a scoreless seventh.
Game 2: TAMIU 1 - TAMUK 4
Facing an early four run deficit, TAMIU battled to bring the game within three runs in the fourth inning.
Robi Kami came around to score on a groundout off the bat of
Brandi Giles, scoring the lone Dustdevil run. Neither team would muster a run through the final three innings.
Delainy Thompson threw all seven innings in the circle. Thompson picked up four strikeouts in the loss, moving to 2-6 overall.

The Dustdevils are off for 16 days before opening Heartland Conference action on Friday, March 10. TAMIU will host Newman University at the Dustdevil Softball Field at 12pm.
