LAREDO, Texas (March 12, 2017) - The Texas A&M International University Softball team closed out a three game series with Newman University on Sunday morning. The Dustdevils picked up a 2-0 win, moving to 7-12 overall (2-1 Heartland Conference).
A true pitchers duel brewed through four innings of play at the Dustdevil Softball Complex. Neither team managed to plate a run in the first four frames of Sunday's ballgame.
Junior, Delainy Thompson took to the circle for her second straight start after picking up a 5-2 win on Saturday.
Cassie Cannon pushed the first run of the ballgame across in the fifth inning. Cannon sent an RBI single up the middle with the bases loaded to give TAMIU a 1-0 lead. Pinch Runner Amandad Hinojosa would come around to score from third on the play.
Alyssa Acuna would give TAMIU a 2-0 lead in the sixth, driving home
Taylor Vines on a sacrifice fly.
Thompson would shut the door in the seventh, setting down the Jets in order, picking up the win.
Thompson tossed all seven innings in the circle, scattering three hits, picking up three strikeouts. Thompson improved to 4-6 with thew win.

The Dustdevils have a quick turnaround before their next game. TAMIU will take on Tarleton State on Monday, March 13. First pitch from Stephenville, Texas is set for 1pm.
