TAMIU opens series with 2-1 win over #14 St. Mary's

LAREDO, Texas (April 12, 2017) - The Texas A&M International University Softball team opened a three game series with St. Mary's on Wednesday. The Dustdevils defeated the #14 Rattlers 2-1, moving to 14-25 overall (8-5 Heartland Conference).

After picking up six hits through 10 appearances at the plate, TAMIU plated the first run of the ballgame to pull ahead 1-0. Alyssa Acuna drew a bases loaded walk to bring home Krystal Perez for the first Dustdevil run.

St. Mary's would plate a run in the fifth inning to knot the game at one.

With two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning, TAMIU pulled ahead for the second time. Cassie Cannon sent a slow roller between the circle and third base where the Rattlers misplayed the grounder. Robi Kami, running on the play, scored from third base to give the Dustdevils a 2-1 lead late in the game.

Delainy Thompson retired the Rattlers in order in the seventh, picking up her ninth win of the season.

Thompson tossed seven innings in the circle, allowing just one run on four hits. The Junior picked up four strikeouts en route to the win.
