LAREDO, Texas (April 13, 2017) - The Texas A&M International University Softball team closed out play in a three game series with St. Mary's on Thursday. TAMIU fell 2-11 in game one and 1-9 in game two, moving to 14-26 overall (8-6 Heartland Conference).
Game 1: TAMIU 2 - STMU 11
The Rattlers struck first on Thursday, plating two runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Brenda Parnin would answer with a homerun in the bottom of the first inning, bringing TAMIU within a run.
STMU picked up a third run in the second inning, pushing their lead back to two.
The Dustdevils would come back within a run of the tie in the fifth inning.
Cassie Cannon launched the second Dustdevil homerun of the afternoon, putting the ball over the center field fence.
St. Mary's took control in the seventh inning, plating eight runs.
Sara Caterson took the loss in game one, falling to 4-7.
Game 2: TAMIU 1 - STMU 9
St. Mary's would strike first for the second straight game, plating a run in each of the first two innings to take a 2-0 lead.
Krystal Perez would pull the Dustdevils within a run in the third inning, sending an RBI double to right field.
Amanda Hinajosa scored on the play after putting herself in scoring position with a double of her own.
The Rattlers would hold TAMIU scoreless, putting up seven runs over the course of three innings to take a 9-1 lead.
Delainy Thompson took the loss, moving to 9-12.
