LAREDO, Texas (March 9, 2018) - The Texas A&M International University Baseball team opened a four-game weekend series with Lubbock Christian on Friday. The Dustdevils fell 2-14 in game one before falling 2-10 in game two. TAMIU moves to 7-8 overall.
GAME 1: TAMIU 2 - LCU 14
Hugo Mendiola would get the nod in the series' opening game, tossing two and two thirds innings. Mendiola struck out five but fell to 2-1 after the loss.
Erick Garay tossed two and two thirds innings, striking out four.
Mauro Luna tossed the final inning and two thirds on the mound, allowing one hit.
HIGHLIGHTS:
Rosales Goes Yard: Matthew Rosales sent his second homerun over the fence in game one, Rosales launched a ball over the left field fence in the third inning, putting up TAMIU's first run of the day.
Aguilar at the Plate: Abel Aguilar was the only Dustdevil to pick up multiple hits for TAMIU. Aguilar added TAMIU's second run on an RBI single to left in the sixth inning.
GAME 2: TAMIU 2 - LCU 10
Eric Cleveland would start game two, his third start of the season. Cleveland tossed six complete innings on the mound, striking out six. After Friday's loss, Cleveland moves to 1-1 on the season.
Arnulfo Salinas tossed two innings in relief while
Mark Trimble tossed the final frame for TAMIU.
HIGHLIGHTS:
Dustdevils pick up 15: TAMIU fell in both games but picked up 15 hits on the day. TAMIU would reach base via a hit seven times in game one before tallying eight hits in the second game.
Aguilar Again: Aguilar would strike again in game two for the Dustdevils, driving home both of the Dustdevil runs with a double to left center in the eighth.
A Pair for Two: Mario Ramirez and
Daniel Espinosa each picked up two hits in game two, leading the Dustdevils as the only two players to pick up multiple hits.
