Box Score 2 WICHITA, Kansas (April 20, 2018) - The Texas A&M International University Baseball team concluded play in a four-game series with Newman University on Friday. The Dustdevils fell 5-8, and 6-7, moving to 12-29 overall and 4-14 in Heartland Conference play.
GAME 1: TAMIU 5 - NU 8
Kyle Kieschnick started game one for TAMIU, falling to 1-7 after tossing an inning and two-thirds.
Nick Montemayor relieved Kieschnick, tossing four and a third on the mound.
Despite TAMIU opening a 1-0 lead in the first, Newman battled back to take an 8-1 lead after four innings of play.
The Dustdevils cut the lead to three runs in the sixth, plating four runs.
Ricky Gonzalez launched a two-run homerun to open the scoring, driving in
Abel Aguilar.
Adrian Castillo drove in the fourth run of the game after a groundout scored
Jorge Napoles.
Mathew Trevino scored TAMIU's fifth run after
Jesse Phipps grounded into a double play.
GAME 2: TAMIU 6 - NU 7
Erick Garay got the nod in game two, tossing two and two-thirds on the mound.
Mark Trimble and
Justin Diaz served in relief before
Mauro Luna tossed the final inning and a third. The Jets would take the game on a walk-off in the ninth, handing Luna his first loss of the season.
TAMIU plated a run in the first before Newman put up four runs, taking a three run lead after three innings.
Ricky Gonzalez brought the game within two runs on his second longball of the afternoon in the fourth.
Mathew Trevino drove in a pair of runs in the sixth to bring the game within a run before
Fernando Contreras tied the game at five in the seventh, scoring on an error.
Adrian Castillo tied the game at six again in the eighth, scoring on a wild pitch.
Newman would plate a run in the ninth, taking the 7-6 win.
