Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

TAMIU men's soccer garners third consecutive shutout victory

PORTALES, N.M. – No. 16 Texas A&M International University men's soccer (8-1-1, 4-1-0 LSC) claimed a 1-0 Lone Star Conference road victory over Eastern New Mexico (7-3-1, 0-3-1 LSC). With the win, TAMIU has now won five consecutive matches over the Greyhounds. TAMIU is now 9-1-2 against ENMU dating back to the 2007 campaign.

The first half of the match was a defensive stalemate as both teams fired four shots, including a pair of shots on goal. 

The first shot was taken by midfielder Ruben Nielsen in the fourth minute of play but went above the top right side of the net.

The Dustdevils then took four corner kicks from 4:34-10:14 before Nadav Datner took a shot on goal that was headed towards the bottom right corner of the net but was stopped by Greyhound goalkeeper Ross Dalton with 14:14 showing on the clock.

Greyhound Charlie Hackshall took the first shot on goal for ENMU and was stopped by Dustdevil netminder Josh Jones at 34:19.
     
Jones continued to have success in protecting the net as he rejected a shot by Craig Brand to send a scoreless match into intermission. 

TAMIU forward Johan Portales netted the lone goal of the match with 56:00 showing on the game clock to give the Dustdevils a one-goal advantage (1-0).

In the 87th minute of play, TAMIU midfielder Cem Izgec that went left of the net and would ultimately cap off the 1-0 shutout victory.

Jones recorded a pair of saves in his second consecutive shutout victory while Dalton made three saves in defeat for the Greyhounds.  
 
The Dustdevils held the advantage in shots (10-6), corner kicks (6-1) and shots on goal (4-2).  
 
TAMIU continues its six-game road trip on Thursday, Oct. 17 against St. Edward's (3-5-2, 3-1-1 LSC).
