Dustdevils collide with St. Edward’s in non-conference showdown

AUSTIN, Texas – No. 12 Texas A&M International University men's soccer (8-2-1, 4-1-0 LSC) dropped a 2-0 non-conference road contest to Lone Star Conference foe, St. Edward's (4-5-2, 3-1-1 LSC) on Thursday afternoon. 

Dustdevil goalkeeper Josh Jones was looking for his third consecutive shutout as he stopped the first shot of the match that was taken by Fyfe Parker in the eighth minute of play.

Elias Perales and David Martinez fired the first two shots for the Dustdevils, respectively, that went wide of the net to continue the scoreless matchup with 21:33 showing on the game clock. 

In the 24th minute, Matthew Parker broke the scoring ice for the Hilltoppers. Before that shot, the Doncaster, England native registered over 281-straight minutes without forfeiting a goal (281:18).

St. Edward's continued to apply the offensive pressure by taking the final three shots of the opening half including an attempt by Parker Fyfe that was saved by Jones that sent a 1-0 match into intermission. 

TAMIU midfielder, Ruben Nielsen tallied its first shot on goal of the match in the 49th minute, but was rejected by Hilltopper netminder Marko Lilic.  

In the 63rd minute, the Hilltoppers extended their lead to a pair of goals when Chen Adjei finished a feed from Alexander Tejada (2-0). 

Dustdevil midfielder, Charlie Michel took the final shot of the match in the 89th minute but was stopped Lilic to ultimately settle the 2-0 final.

Jones recorded a trio of saves while Lilic stopped two shots for the Hilltoppers.  
 
St. Edward's held the advantage in shots (11-7), corner kicks (7-5) and shots on goal (5-2).  
 
TAMIU continues its six-game road trip on Saturday, Oct. 19 against No. 21 Palm Beach Atlantic (7-2-2).
