LAREDO, Texas – Texas A&M International University men's soccer (11-4-1, 6-2-0 LSC) closed out its home schedule and celebrated Senior Day on Saturday afternoon with a 3-0 Lone Star Conference win over the UT Permian Basin Falcons (5-10-1, 2-6-0 LSC) on Saturday afternoon. The Dustdevils now improve to 16-5-1 against the Falcons dating back to the 2007 campaign.
The Dustdevils proved to be the aggressor in the opening 25 minutes by firing the first seven shots, but Falcon goalkeeper Alfonso Aragon made four saves to hold off the Dustdevils.
TAMIU outshot the Falcons 11-1 in the opening half but were unable to find the back of the net to send a 1-0 match into the break.
In the second half, the Dustdevils began to pull away by scoring a pair of goals in a span of 52 seconds. TAMIU forward Elias Perales finished a feed from David Martinez to give the Dustdevils a 1-0 edge with 58:27 showing on the game clock.
Dustdevil midfielder Ruben Nielsen then registered a team-high ninth goal of the season to extend TAMIU's lead to a pair of goals (2-0).
TAMIU forward Nadav Datner netted the final goal in the 67th minute to cap off the 3-0 victory.
Dustdevil goalkeeper Josh Jones played the first 76:27 of the match before Nicolas Heuser played the final 13:33 to secure TAMIU's sixth shutout of the season while Aragon stopped six shots in defeat.
At the end of 90 minutes, the Dustdevils won the battle in shots (21-8), shots on goal (10-1) and corner kicks (8-3).
The Dustdevils will conclude their regular season on the road to face off against UT Tyler (6-5-3, 1-3-3 LSC) in a Lone Star Conference showdown on Saturday, Nov. 9 at 2:30 p.m.
