Dustdevils Dominate Wolves On The Road

MONMOUTH, Ore. - Texas A&M International women's basketball (4-3) took care of business against Western Oregon (2-3) in a 51-42 win on Friday.

Junior Patryjca Jaworska led the Dustdevils with 16 points as well as five steals, two rebounds and two assists. Junior Nicole Heyn posted 15 points to go along with three assists, two rebounds and a steal. Senior Christine Ortega contributed seven points in addition to five rebounds, an assist and a steal.

TAMIU opened with a 9-4 lead, hitting all three of their first three pointers. The Wolves bounced back to tie things at 9-9 though. The quarter came to a close with WOU taking a 14-11 lead.

The Wolves carried their momentum into the second period going up 20-13 early. However, TAMIU came alive and rattled off a 20-0 run racing out to a 33-20 lead, and never trailed again in the game. They took a 33-22 lead into the intermission.

After the break, WOU tried to mount a comeback but could only get within seven points at 33-26 just three minutes into the period. The Dustdevils responded by pushing back out to 43-31 with just a minute left in the third quarter. They took a 43-34 advantage into the final 10 minutes.

In the final quarter, TAMIU kept up their momentum going back up by 13 points at 49-36 with 6:25 left. The Dustdevils were able to hold off the Wolves to secure the 51-42 victory.

TAMIU will be back in action as they travel to Lacey, Wash. on Sunday, Dec. 1 to face off against Saint Martin's (2-2).
