Dustdevils Topple Houston-Victoria On The Road

VICTORIA, Texas - Texas A&M International baseball (2-4) downed Houston-Victoria (4-4) in a 10-8 decision on Thursday.

After a scoreless first inning, the Dustdevils offense exploded in the second as Mauro Luna drove in Jorge Napoles for the first run of the game on a RBI sacrifice fly. During the next at bat, Phillip Sanchez would go yard with a three-run bomb, scoring himself, Mathew Trevino and Adrian Castillo to take an early 4-0 lead.

TAMIU would tack on an insurance run in the third, as Matthew Rosales drove in Hunter Trinidad with a RBI single. The Jaguars began to wake up in the bottom half as they would cut the lead to 5-3 with a three-run blast of their own.

UHV would take a brief 6-5 lead in the bottom of the fifth as a two RBI single tied the game, and a RBI sacrifice bunt with the bases loaded put them out front.

In the top of the seventh, the Dustdevils would retake the lead 7-6 as Anthony Handel laid down a bunt and an errant throw from the Jaguar pitcher allowed Andrew Holsey and Daniel Espinoza to score from first and second base, respectively.

In the eighth, TAMIU added two more runs as Sanchez laid down a bunt and allowed Obi Obinwa to score on an error, this time by the third baseman. Holsey later drove Sanchez in with a RBI single to push the lead to 9-6. UHV would get a run back in the bottom half off a RBI single, cutting the lead to 9-7.

In the ninth, the Dustdevils would get one final run as Sanchez drove in Castillo with a RBI single. The Jaguars would also get a run in their last at bat, but TAMIU took the win 10-8.
