LUBBOCK, Texas -Â Texas A&M International baseball (9-16) split a doubleheader with Lubbock Christian (15-8) on Friday.
GAME 1 - TAMIU 4, LCU 3
The Dustdevils jumped on the board early in the first inning as Jorge Napoles would drive in the game's first run, bringing home Andrew Holsey with a RBI single. They would tack on an insurance run in the third inning as Anthony Handel stole second and third, then scored on an error by the catcher to give TAMIU a 2-0 lead.
The offense would continue to roll for the Dustdevils, scoring two more runs in the top of the fourth. Phillip Sanchez brought home Adrian Castillo with a RBI double, and Daniel Espinoza scored on a ground out to the second, pushing the lead to 4-0.Â
LCU would finally answer back in the bottom of the fourth as they put up three runs in the inning. The first run came on a RBI single with two more runs scoring on two wild pitches, cutting the lead to 4-3.
After that rough inning, the Dustdevils pitching settled down and only allowed one hit in the final three innings to take the 4-3 victory.
Andrew Pavon (1-1, 4.0 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 2 SO) earned his first win of the season with the victory, with Kenneth Saenz (1) earning his first save of the season. Chandler Casey (3-3, 7.0 IP, 9 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 10 K) took the loss.
GAME 2 - LCU 10, TAMIU 0
In the second game, TAMIU could not figure out the Chaps pitching, as their starter held the Dustdevils to only one hit in seven innings. The lone hit came in the first at bat of the game as Holsey singled to right field, but was left stranded at second base.
Unfortunately, the LCU bats would could not be silenced as they were able to score in four of the seven innings, including three runs in three separate frames to take a 10-0 win.
Nathan Dockery (2-0, 7.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 6 SO) earned the win. Andrew Hernandez (4-2, 3.2 IP, 6 H, 7 R, 4 ER, 4 BB, 2 SO) took the loss.
TAMIU will look to split the series on Sunday as the two squads face off in the series finale at 1 p.m.
