TAMIU Falls In Road Finale To Lions

FORT SMITH, Ark. - Texas A&M International baseball (16-28, 7-11 HC) fell 19-4 in the regular season road finale against Arkansas-Fort Smith (24-16, 11-7 HC) on Saturday.

The Lions got on the board early as they took a 2-0 lead in the second inning. Both runs scored on a two RBI single.

The Dustdevils responded with two runs of their own in the third to tie things up. A RBI double from Obi Obinwa through the left side scored Phillip Sanchez. Andrew Holsey then doubled home Obinwa.

Unfortunately, the UAFS bats would explode as they scored at least four runs in each of the remaining four innings, scoring five in the fifth.

TAMIU would add a run in the top of the fifth as Daniel Espionza blasted a pitch over the right centerfield wall. They pushed across on final run in the sixth as Matthew Trevino plated Jorge Napoles with a RBI single to center. However, the Lions would still take the 19-4 win.

Cooper van Kooten (4-2, 6.0 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 5 SO) earned the win. Ruben Solis (1-9, 3.1 IP, 8 H, 10 R, 7 ER, 3 BB, 0 SO) took the loss.

The Dustdevils will return home on Friday, May 3 for the first two games of the regular season finale series as they face off against St. Edward's.
