TAMIU men's soccer dominates in 4-1 rout of University of Mary

RAPID CITY, S.D. – Texas A&M International University men's soccer (2-0-0) claimed its second consecutive non-conference road victory by a score of 4-1 over the University of Mary Marauders (0-2-0) from Sioux Park Stadium in Rapid City, S.D. on Sunday afternoon. This is the first time the Dustdevils won their first two matches since 2014.

The Dustdevils put the first goal on the scoreboard in the 33rd minute when midfielder Diego Meda finished a goal that was assisted by Cem Izgec.

After the first half, the Dustdevils took eight shots while the defense only surrendered a pair of shots heading into intermission.

In the 63rd minute, Izgec blasted a shot that beat Marauder goalkeeper, Dawson Fairchild to extend the Dustdevils lead to two (2-0).

The Marauders tried to battle back as Joseph Frediani beat Dustdevil goalkeeper Josh Jones in the 67th minute to slash their deficit to one (2-1).

In the 84th minute, Johan Portales caught Fairchild out of position and capitalized on the opportunity as he ripped a shot from inside his own half that found the back of the net to give TAMIU a commanding 3-1 edge.

In the 90th minute, the Dustdevils converted on an own goal to cap off the 4-1 win.

Jones made a pair of saves for the Dustdevils and Fairchild rejected seven shots in defeat.

TAMIU held the advantage in shots (20-8), shots on goal (11-3) and corner kicks (7-1).

The Dustdevils will travel to St. George, Utah on Friday, Sept. 13 for a non-conference showdown against Westminster College at 6 p.m. from Trailblazer Stadium.
