AUSTIN, Texas – Texas A&M International softball (10-5, 0-2 LSC) fell in a heartbreaking doubleheader to St. Edward's (11-5, 2-0 LSC) to open Lone Star Conference play on Friday.
GAME 1 – SEU 2, TAMIU 1
 St. Edward's got on the board in the first inning with an RBI ground out to second. They tacked on a second run for a 2-0 lead on an RBI single to short.
The Dustdevils cut the lead to 2-1 in the bottom of the fourth. Christina Garcia drove in Heather Ruiz with an RBI single.
TAMIU scattered two hits over the final three innings and left one runner on base. SEU took the win 2-1.
The Hilltoppers' Julisa Ortega (3-0) earned the win. The Dustdevils' Melanie Lint (2-6) took the loss.
GAME 2 – SEU 3 TAMIU 2
In the second game of the doubleheader, TAMIU jumped on the board first for an early 1-0 lead. Briana Arredondo brought home Victoria Maldonado with an RBI single.
Both pitching staffs pitched scoreless frames in the second, third and fourth innings.
SEU tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the fifth as a run scored from third as a runner from first was caught stealing.
TAMIU responded in the top of the sixth regaining the lead 2-1. Jordan Meza scored thanks to an Alyssa Contreras RBI single up the middle.
In the bottom of the seventh, the Hilltoppers had runners on second and third with two out. A two RBI single up the middle scored both runs, giving St. Edward's the 3-2 walk off victory.
SEU's Emily Klanika (2-2) got the win in the decision. TAMIU's Paige Sasser (2-3) took the loss.
The Dustdevils will be back in action on Sunday, March 1 as they travel to San Antonio, Texas for a Lone Star Conference showdown with St. Mary's.
