LAREDO, Texas - Texas A&M International women's basketball (11-17, 8-14 LSC) took down Texas Woman's (10-16, 8-14 LSC) in a 62-57 decision in the season finale on Saturday.
Junior Patrycja Jaworska led the Dustdevils with a career-high 28 points as well as two steals and one rebound. Junior Nicole Heyn posted seven points with four assists, three rebounds and two steals.
The first half was a tale of two quarters. In the first period, the opening minutes were tight as both teams traded the lead back and forth. TAMIU came out on top with a 4-3 lead. From there, the Dustdevil began a 17-4 run to close out the quarter with a 18-7 lead.
The second quarter was almost the opposite of the first. TAMIU got a quick three to start the period, but TWU went on a 17-2 run to take a 24-23 lead. The Dustdevils responded with two quick threes to retake the lead 29-24 headed into the intermission.
After the break, the Pioneers came out hot with a 7-3 run to trim the lead to 32-31. However, that that was as close they would get in the period as TAMIU went on a 14-5 run to push back out to 46-36, and took a 46-38 lead into the final 10 minutes.
In the fourth quarter, TWU refused to quit as they got two quick threes to start the period and trim the deficit to 46-44. The Dustdevils didn't stagger as they pushed back out to 51-44. The Pioneers kept swinging and tied the game 52-52 after an 8-1 run. While they tied the game two more times, TAMIU responded each time retaining their lead and taking 62-57 victory.
