SAN ANTONIO, Texas – TAMIU men's and women's cross country both competed in their second meet of the season, at the UIW Cross Country Invitational, hosted by Incarnate Word.
For the women who placed seventh as a team in the 14 team field, senior
Beverlyne Kipchumba paced the Dustdevils with a time of 23:36.1 in the 6K, placing 19th in the 110 runner field.
Graduate
Claudette Soto wasn't far behind, placing 25th with a time of 23:48.1. Senior
Faith Kiprotich followed in 34th with a time of 24:23.6, while freshmen
Destiny Villarreal also placed top-50, with a 50th place showing and a time of 25:14.6.
Sophomore
Rose Iminza (58th- 25:33.8) and freshman
Itzel Soto (88th- 28:20.8) rounded out the field.
In the men's 8K race as a team TAMIU finished in sixth place out of 14 teams.
Freshman Josphat Langat led the charge for the Dustdevils, placing 14th out of 126 runners with a time of 25:38.6.
Sophomore Malvon Boen followed with a 33rd place finish and a time of 26:20.8, while fellow sophomore
Evans Ngetich placed 40th with a time of 26:38.8.
Junior
Daniel Villarreal just missed a top-50 placement, finishing 52nd at 27:04.6, while freshman
Ethan Chavez cracked the top-75, ending in 71st, breaking the tape at 27:55.1.
Senior
Ruben Martinez rounded out the order with an 85th place finish and a time of 28:51.9.
TAMIU races again on Friday, Oct. 7, as both teams take part in the Our Lady of the Lake Invitational in San Antonio, Texas.
