Dustdevils Roll Past Rattlers 3-0

LAREDO, Texas - Texas A&M International volleyball picked up its third win in a row, rolling past St. Mary's 3-0 to improve to 5-0 inside the KCB in 2022.

Set one was all Dustdevils (17-5, 8-1 LSC) as they cruised to a 25-12 victory.

TAMIU used a 7-0 run early when the score sat at 4-3 to open up an 11-3 edge, then after alternating points, another run of 8-2 to take a 20-7 lead before closing the set.

Set two was even early with the Rattlers (12-10, 8-3 LSC) holding a 7-6 lead. The Dustdevils would turn the tide with an 11-2 run to lead 17-9 and go on to take a 25-18 set victory.

The final set was much like set two where St. Mary's held an early 5-4 lead, that diminished quickly after TAMIU used a 9-1 run to lead 13-6.

The Rattlers countered with a 5-0 run to cut the deficit to 13-11, but another 6-2 stretch by the Dustdevils regained a six point TAMIU lead that never trimmed to fewer than three as the Dustdevils swept the match with a 25-19 win.

Graduate student Mackenzie Catalina scored a game-high 11 kills, while hitting .321 on the night to go alongside 10 digs for her 14th double-double of the season. She also had two block assists and a service ace.

Sophomore Giulia Hortelan earned her 14th double-double as well, swinging for 10 kills and a game high 17 digs.

Reigning LSC Offensive Player of the Week, Megan Menchaca, also had 10 kills on the night offensively.
