DENVER, Colo. – Texas A&M International cross country competed in the NCAA DII South Central Regionals Saturday, with the women placing 18th as a team and the men finishing in 19th, running in the snow for the first time this season.
"On the women's team, we lost a couple spots from last year, but we are young, and it is our hope to elevate to our full potential in the coming years,' said head coach
Benny Rodriguez.
Speaking of the men's team, Rodriguez said, "we improved from last year's placement and now we have to build from this."
For the women, Beverlyne Kipchumba paced the Dustdevils, finishing 73rd with a time of 24:01.10.
Victorine Kiprop earned the second top 80 finish for TAMIU, ending in 79th, crossing the line at 24:23.9.
Faith Kiprotich placed 115th at 25:35.71, while Destiny Villarreal (130th- 26:09.9) and Rose Iminza (137th- 26:25.9) rounded out the Dustdevil lineup.
On the men's side, Josphat Langat earned TAMIU's second best finish at regionals in program history, with a 72 nd place finish and a time of 33:37.9.
Malvin Boen followed in 96th place, breaking the tape at 34:24.8. Colfin Kipsiwa and Evans Ngetich were the third and fourth place finishers for the team, ending in places 129th and 131st with times of 35:56.3 and 36:07.4 respectively.
Rounding out the Dustdevil order were Gilbert Garcia (155th- 37:58.9) and
Daniel Villarreal (157th- 39:23.8).
The season has concluded for TAMIU, which included a win for both teams at the Our Lady of the Lake Invitational, and the men added a second top five, placing fourth at the DBU Invitational.
