LAREDO, Texas – Texas A&M International head men's soccer coach,
Claudio Arias, announced the signing of seven players to the 2022 recruiting class on Wednesday.
Jorge Mares
Mares joins TAMIU after playing for both United High School and the Laredo Heat.
"I am happy and excited to be joining TAMIU soccer and learning from my teammates," said Mares.
Nico Weigandt
A native of Dortmund, Germany, Weigandt competed most recently for Rot-Weiss-Essen in U19 youth Bundesliga, a top league in Germany.
"Due to my long career as a soccer player, my affinities with sports with an academic purpose and because of my sister, who is also studying abroad, I was inspired to make my dream come true," said Weigandt. "TAMIU offered me the best chances regarding my academic and athletic possibilities."
Iker Fernandez
Hailing from Bilbao, Spain, Fernandez has been in SD Oyonesa since he started playing soccer.
"I am looking forward to starting this new stage and learning a lot of new things," said Fernandez.
Riccardo Turcis
Coming to TAMIU by way of Turin, Italy, Turcis has competed for multiple club teams including Fossano and the Laredo Heat. He began his collegiate career at UT Rio Grande Valley.
"I'm very blessed for being able to be part of TAMIU's men's soccer program," said Turcis. "In addition to continuing my education, I'm looking forward to helping the program grow and accomplish great things."
Jordan Mase
Mase, a native of Crawley, U.K., comes to TAMIU after beginning his collegiate career at Allen Community College (Kan.).
While a Red Devil, this past season, Mase scored 10 goals and helped on four others in 10 games played.
"I felt really welcomed from everyone so far and I feel we are ready to compete next season," said Mase.
Tajani Fairclough
Arriving to Laredo from Illinois Central College, Fairclough, a native of Kingston, Jamaica begins his TAMIU career in 2022.
Fairclough netted 27 goals in his three seasons with Illinois Central, leading it to the second round of the Region 24 Tournament.
"I am grateful to be able to continue my academic and athletic career at TAMIU," said Fairclough. "I'm looking forward to the start of a new season with my teammates."
Daniel Duran
From Houston, Duran joins the Dustdevils after stops at Heartland Community College and Western Texas College to begin his collegiate career.
In his one season with Heartland CC, Duran was a member of the Mid-West Athletic Conference All-Conference team. The season prior, he was First Team All-Conference and First-Team All-Region at Western Texas.
"I'm thankful to the coaching staff for the opportunity to dress up and give my all on the field, as well as in the classroom, and to be part of the Dustdevil family," said Duran.
