DENVER, Colo. – TAMIU men's and women's cross country both competed in the Metropolitan State Invitational to open the 2022 season.
For the women who placed 12th, senior
Beverlyne Kipchumba paced the Dustdevils with a time of 25:13.2 in the 6K, placing 83rd in the 151 runner field.
Senior
Faith Kiprotich followed in 110th with a time of 26:29.7, while freshmen
Destiny Villarreal (117th- 27:13.8) and
Itzel Soto (130th- 28:39.4) rounded out the field.
In the men's 8K race as a team TAMIU finished in ninth place, sophomore Malvon Boen led the Dustdevils with a 66th place finish in the 148 runner field with a time of 26:10.
Sophomore Colfin Kipsawa and freshman Josphat Langat followed behind in 75th and 76th place with times of 26:29.9 and 26:33.6 respectively.
Rounding out the TAMIU field was sophomore
Evans Ngetich (97th- 27:29.7), junior
Daniel Villarreal (112th- 28:17.8), sophomore
Gilbert Garcia (116th- 28:33) freshman
Ethan Chavez (122nd- 29:06.5) and senior
Ruben Martinez (127th- 29:35.8).
The Dustdevils return in two weeks when the race in the UIW Invitational in San Antonio, Texas, hosted by Incarnate Word on Saturday, Oct. 1.
