Laredo, Texas – Texas A&M International volleyball clinched a spot in the Lone Star Conference playoffs on Saturday when it upset No. 5 West Texas A&M 3-2 (25-22, 25-20, 25-27, 12-25, 15-13) at home in the final game of the regular season.
The fifth and final set was back and forth but with the score tied at 11-11, the Dustdevils (19-10, 10-6 LSC) went on a 4-2 run capped by a kill from Mia Molina to clinch the win. This is the second trip to the LSC playoffs in a row for TAMIU.
The Dustdevils finished with 67 kills, 10 aces, three blocks, 64 assists and 78 digs. The Buffs (25-3, 14-2 LSC) finished with 66 kills, six aces, nine blocks, 62 assists and 91 digs.
Molina led TAMIU with a career-high 21 kills, Anna Ligart added 16 and Ariana Guerra totaled 11.
Emma Lade led the Dustdevils with five aces and 57 assists. Jasmin Garcia tallied a team-high three blocks and Giulia Hortelan finished with 24 digs.
The Dustdevils earned the eight seed in the tournament and will play the No. 1 seed DBU in the first round on Thursday, November 16 at a time to be determined.
