CONROE, Texas – Texas A&M International softball were unable to get into the win column in day two of the DII Spring Invitational, falling to Arkansas Tech 5-0 and to Metropolitan State 11-5.
GAME 1: Arkansas Tech 5 TAMIU 0

TAMIU (0-3, 0-0 LSC) opened the game with an opportunity in the top of the first after graduate
Victoria Maldonado doubled with one out, but eventually would be left stranded at third base.
Arkansas Tech (1-0, 0-0 GAC) playing its first game of the season would put a run on the board in the second and then followed that in the third with three runs.
The Dustdevils only other chance with a runner in scoring position was in the fourth, but still couldn't break through.
The Golden Suns would add one final run in the sixth inning to close out the scoring.
Sophomore
Carla Arellano started in the circle and pitched a complete game allowing five runs, five hits, three walks and four strikeouts.

Offensively, TAMIU was able to scatter five hits, with five different players contributing to the total.
GAME 2: Metropolitan State 11 TAMIU 5
It was another quick start for the opposition, as Metro State (1-0, 0-0 RMAC) also had fresh legs playing its first game and put three runs on the board in the top of the first.
The Dustdevils (0-4, 0-0 LSC) playing its fourth game in 26 hours, was able to trim the deficit to 3-2 in the bottom of the first, behind a two-run homer by sophomore
Tajanae Davis, her second of the season.
TAMIU tied the game in the third when Davis again drove in a run on an RBI single.
The Roadrunners quickly responded in the fourth, scoring four runs to open a 7-3 lead, but the Dustdevils would again chip away.
In the fifth inning, sophomore Kristen Maldonado made it 7-4 on a sacrifice fly, then in the bottom of the sixth, sophomore
Bridgette Montes cut it to 7-5 on an RBI single.
However, four more runs scored for Metro State in the top of the seventh to end the scoring and seal the victory.
Senior
Darrian Smith got the ball to start and in 3.1 innings allowed seven runs, five hits, walked five and struck out one.
Sophomore
Tessa Ramirez relieved Smith and threw 3.3 innings of her own and allowed four runs (three earned), one walk and fanned two.
Freshman
Celeste Apaez threw the final out and struck out the batter.
TAMIU had seven hits offensively, with Davis leading the way going 3-for-3 with three RBI, a double and home run, while four other Dustdevils had a single hit.
TAMIU return to the field for two more games on Saturday, Feb. 4 when they meet Regis for an 11 a.m. first pitch, immediately followed by Pittsburg State at 1:15 p.m.
