Women's Team Finishes 6th At OLLU Invite

Men’s Cross Country Win OLLU Invite | Women Finish 6th

San Antonio, Texas- The Men's and Women's cross country team competed at the Our Lady of the Lake Invitational on October 12, 2024. The two teams were just coming off a great performance at the DBU Invitational and were hoping to keep going in the right direction.

The saying it is not how you start but how you finish is true when it comes to the world of running. The freshmen phenom Donald Kipsang just finished breaking the school record in the 8k and continued his success story today at the OLLU invite where he finished 1st place overall with a time of 24:25. His teammates were in close pursuit with the TAMIU Men's Cross Country team taking 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 9th to secure first place overall. Beating out eight other teams in a very competitive field.

The Women's Cross Country team continued to build off of their season performance thus far. The Women's team was lead by Mercy Kosgei who finished 16th with a time of 22:43 in the 6k showdown. The women's team finished 6th out of nine teams but their times have significantly improved over the course of the season.

Head Coach Benny Rodriguez commented,
 
"This is a great indication that we are heading the right direction. Now we must maintain our health since we are heading into the championship segment of our season. I am extremely proud of my team."

The Lone Star Conference Cross Country Championships will be held on Saturday, October 26th in Kingsville, Texas.
