RICHARDSON, Texas --- Defending Lone Star Conference men's cross country champion West Texas A&M is predicted to win the 2024 LSC title according to preseason polling of head coaches and sports information staff as announced Thursday (Aug. 29) by the conference.
The Buffs, winners of the last 11 LSC men's cross country championships, collected 24 of 26 possible first place votes and 325 points. Conference championship runner-up a year ago, DBU nabbed a first-place vote to list second with 303 points and outdistance Oklahoma Christian predicted third with 258 points.
Western New Mexico (240), St. Edward's (226), UT Tyler (223) and Cameron (178/1 first-place vote) list as predicted top seven LSC teams. The preseason LSC poll is completed by Texas A&M International (150), Angelo State (138), Lubbock Christian (122), Texas A&M-Kingsville (89), Eastern New Mexico (74) and conference newcomer Sul Ross State (40).
Twenty-five athletes are cited as 2024 Runners to Watch in what is projected to be a highly competitive men's cross country season.
Winner of three major titles a year ago – LSC, NCAA Division II national and South Central Regional champion – West Texas A&M senior
William Amponsah (Agona Swedru, Ghana) leads a group of competitors that includes six returning LSC All-Conference runners, a pair of All-South Central Regional finishers and two LSC All-Academic Team honorees. WT teammate senior
Harry Louradour (Le Vigen, France) joined Amponsah as an All-LSC and All-Region finisher.

The 2024 Lone Star Conference men's cross country season gets underway over the September 5-7 weekend. The Lone Star Conference Championship will be run Saturday, October 26 and hosted by Texas A&M-Kingsville (Kingsville, Texas). The NCAA Division II postseason starts with the South Central Regional hosted by MSU Denver on November 9 followed by the national championship November 23 in Sacramento, Calif.
