San Antonio, Texas –
Ian Rono started the season with a bang as he broke the TAMIU school record in the 4-mile at the UIW Invitational.
Rono won the individual race with a time of 18:45, setting a new record for TAMIU.
Paul Barmao finished 33
rd with a time of 20:58 and
Diego Pena finished in 47
th with a time of 21:11 rounding out the Dustdevils in the top 50.
Alan Hernandez ran 21:28,
Jorge Sanchez ran a 22:39 and
Gael Rodriguez ran a time of 23:24.
Rounding out the Dustdevils were
Cristian Sanchez (23:57),
Dickens Kipkogei (23:59) and
Aldo Cantu (24:07).
The men finished their first race of the season in eighth place.
On the women's side, Fancy Jelegat, who finished 30
th overall led the Dustdevils to a 10
th place finish with a 5K time of 19:23.
Samantha Viruel (20:56) and
Dania Sepulveda (20:56) finished just outside the top 50.
Mercy Kosgei and
Laura Jeptoo ran times of 21:59 and 23:28 respectively.
Rounding out the Dustdevils were
Jazlynn Villalobos (23:29),
Valerie Esparza (24:03) and
Valerie Garcia (26:11)
The Dustdevils head to Kerrville, Texas, on September 20 to compete in the Schreiner Meet.
