Box Score Laredo, Texas - Texas A&M International's men's basketball team defeats Texas A&M Kingsville in a back-to-back series win this past Saturday at home with a core of
61-74. This comes after a three game losing streak before facing off against the Javelinas at a much needed time for team moral to boost up again after several losses. This changes their
overall standing of 7-10 and conference
standing 4-5.
The Dustdevils took an early lead during the first half with a point gap of
12 points with a score of 29-41. Their hands were hot with making buckets, since the jump ball after their narrow win last Tuesday against the Javelinas by one point.
Texas A&M International out performed the Javelinas with
nearly making all shooting percentages over 50%. The Dustdevils made
45.6% of their field goals (FG) 42.9% 3-pointers (3PT), and over 55.6% of their free throws (FT). The Dustdevils leasing scorers were
Caylen Goff Brown with
10 points,
Aaron Perez with
16 points, and
Jamyier Patton with
19 points. Between their combined effort of layups, driving layups, floating layups, and 3-pointers, the Javelinas didn't stand a chance with their percentages for made field goals barely making the
40 percentile and made 3-pointers at the
38.5 percentile. The Javelinas tried to bridge the gap into the second half of the game and cam close to it during the middle of the second half, but ultimately couldn't put out. Thus, losing to the Dustdevils by a
14 point gap.
The Javelinas had two players leading their team:
Nate Garcia and Bryson Goldsmith. Both players put
10 points each on their scoreboard and played well defensively to contribute a total of
10 rebounds together. However,
Nate Garcia fouled out of the game during a critical time.
PLAYER HIGHLIGHT:
Jamyier Patton, Junior, comes to Laredo from Buffalo, New York and is the son of Alexia and has five siblings. He is pursuing his degree in Business Administration.
Patton was a defining factor in today's win against the Javelinas and played a total of 31 minutes. In every shooting logistic, he
scored more than 50% of his attempts at the basket. He hit
8-out-of-11 field goals, 1-out-of-2 three-pointers and 2-out-of-3 free throws. Not only did he score big, he also lead the team with
6 assists to help elevate his team to win over the weekend.
