TAMIU Golf Alumnus Mauricio Figueroa Makes PGA TOUR Debut in Mexico

LAREDO, Texas — Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) golf alumnus Mauricio Figueroa reached a significant milestone in his professional golf career this week, making his PGA TOUR debut at the VidantaWorld Mexico Open in Vallarta, Mexico.

The former Dustdevil standout took another major step in his golfing journey, earning the opportunity to compete alongside some of the world's top professional golfers on one of the sport's biggest stages.

During his collegiate career at TAMIU, Figueroa established himself as one of the most accomplished golfers in program history. In 2022, he captured the Lone Star Conference individual championship and earned All-Region recognition. He continued to make his mark on the national stage in 2023, finishing third individually at the NCAA Division II Men's Golf National Championship, one of the highest individual finishes in TAMIU golf history.

Figueroa's PGA TOUR debut marks another chapter in an already impressive career and serves as a testament to the talent, dedication and competitive excellence he demonstrated throughout his time representing the Dustdevils.

His achievement also represents a proud moment for TAMIU Athletics and the men's golf program, showcasing the ability of Dustdevil student-athletes to compete and succeed at the highest levels of their respective sports.

TAMIU Athletics congratulates Figueroa on this remarkable milestone and wishes him continued success as he builds his professional golf career.
