Dustdevils Win Both In Doubleheader Against Sul Ross State

LAREDO- Texas  The Dustdevils win both games of a doubleheader against Sul Ross State at home, one by Eddie Saenz walk-off in extra innings, the other finishing up in seven inside Jorge Haynes Field.  

First Game, doubleheader: Win, Final Score 3-2  

A seven-inning contest found itself in extras with neither team able to score a run until the top of the eighth when Lobos Cole Keppler scored on an error and Jayden Hernandez hit a sac fly to score Adan Velasquez.  

Dustdevils trailed 2-0 heading into the bottom of the eighth when Tristian Garcia singled to left getting on base. Asahi Nakano followed up with a base hit of his own bringing up Eduardo Espinoza who reached base on a fielders choice after an error by the Lobos third baseman scores a run. Trailing 2-1 with two runners on base Eddie Saenz doubles scoring two and wins game one in walk off fashion.  

Dustdevil starting pitcher Dylan Kinney (1-1) receives his first win of the season with eight innings of work allowing five hits and two runs.  

Second Game, doubleheader: Win, Final Score 4-3  

Dustdevils got on the board first scoring three runs in the third inning off a two RBI double from Saul Soto and an RBI double from Eddie Saenz.  

In the fourth, Dustdevil Iann Cobos got on base hitting his first triple of the year, then Derek Garcia brought him home with an RBI single to center field extending the lead 4-0.  

The Lobos responded with one run in the fifth, sixth, and seventh to claw back facing three different Dustdevil pitchers. Jayden Hernandez led the way (1-3) with an RBI.  


TAMIU (6-7,6-7) secures the series win after taking three straight and faces Sul Ross State (1-12) for the finale Sunday inside Jorge Haynes Field.  

PLAYER SPOTLIGHT: Junior pitcher, Dylan Kinney, entered game three giving up 11 earned runs in 13 innings pitched but today he stayed on the mound for the entire game only allowing one earned run with five hits. Kinney is pursuing a degree in Business Administration in his first season at TAMIU.
