Dustdevils Fall to Central Oklahoma in Friday Doubleheader

EDMOND, Okla. – The Texas A&M International softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader to Central Oklahoma on Friday afternoon at Gerry Pinkston Stadium, falling 9-1 in Game 1 and 9-1 in Game 2.

Game 1

TAMIU struck first in the opening inning when Isabella Perez delivered an RBI single to center field that brought home Austyn Marriage, giving the Dustdevils an early 1-0 lead.

Central Oklahoma answered with a big fourth inning, scoring six runs to take control of the game. The Bronchos used a series of extra-base hits, highlighted by a two-run home run from Rylee Lemos, to break the game open and jump ahead 6-1.

UCO added three more runs in the sixth inning, including a two-run homer by Haley Gallo, to secure the 9-1 victory.

Marriage led the Dustdevils offensively in the opener, going 2-for-2 with a walk and a run scored, while Perez drove in TAMIU's lone run.

Game 2

Central Oklahoma once again grabbed momentum early in the second game, scoring three runs in the second inning and adding single runs in the third and fourth to build a 5-0 advantage.

The Dustdevils got on the board in the fifth inning when Victoria Espinoza lined an RBI double to center field to score Krysta Ruiz, cutting the deficit to 5-1.

However, the Bronchos answered with another run in the bottom of the inning before Hannah Demoff delivered a three-run home run in the sixth inning to seal the 9-1 win.

Espinoza finished with an RBI double for TAMIU, while Ruiz recorded a hit and scored the Dustdevils' lone run of the game.

PLAYER SPOTLIGHT: Austyn Marriage is a freshman catcher/right fielder for Texas A&M International University and is currently pursuing a degree in Biology. A native of Bloomington, IN, Austyn is the daughter of Casie and David Marriage, and was born on September 6, 2007.

Marriage paced the Dustdevils offensively across the doubleheader, collecting three hits over the two games and scoring TAMIU's run in the opening contest. The freshman right fielder went 2-for-2 with a walk in Game 1, reaching base three times and using her speed to create pressure on the basepaths with a stolen base. Marriage continued to produce in the second game with another hit, finishing the day as one of the most consistent offensive threats for the Dustdevils.
