Dustdevils Drop Sunday Twin Bill to Cameron

LAREDO, Texas — Texas A&M International softball fell in both games of a Sunday doubleheader against Cameron University, dropping the opener 7-0 before falling 11-0 in Game 2 at Dustdevil Softball Field.

Game 1: Cameron 7, TAMIU 0

Cameron jumped out to an early lead in the opening game, scoring two runs in the first inning on a two-run home run before adding three more in the second and two in the third to build a 7-0 advantage.

The Dustdevils were able to put runners on base throughout the contest, collecting five hits, but were unable to push a run across against Cameron pitcher Madison Fulfer.

Austyn Marriage and Isabella Perez each recorded two hits for TAMIU in the opener. Marriage also drew a walk and stole a base as the Dustdevils attempted to generate offense.

Kylie Goad went the distance in the circle for TAMIU, pitching all seven innings while striking out two batters.

Game 2: Cameron 11, TAMIU 0

The nightcap remained scoreless through the first two innings before Cameron broke through with two runs in the third inning.

The Aggies gradually added to their lead with two runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth, highlighted by a three-run home run that extended the advantage. Cameron sealed the game with a four-run seventh inning to complete the doubleheader sweep.

TAMIU again recorded five hits in the contest. Austyn Marriage led the Dustdevils with a double, while Sessy Moreno, Krysta Ruiz, Isabella De Los Santos, and Cecilia Saldivar each added a hit.

Nevaeh Herrera started in the circle for the Dustdevils and pitched five innings. Celeste Apaez, Madison Taylor Gray, and Anaya Paredes all appeared in relief during the final two innings.

PLAYER SPOTLIGHT: Austyn Marriage is a freshman catcher for Texas A&M International University and is currently pursuing a degree in Biology. A native of Bloomington, IN, Austyn is the daughter of Casie and David Marriage, and was born on September 6, 2007.

Marriage led the Dustdevils at the plate across both games, finishing the day 3-for-5 with a double, a walk, and a stolen base. She recorded two hits in the opener and added an extra-base hit in Game 2, accounting for three of TAMIU's 10 hits in the doubleheader.
