TAMIU Drops Tight Game 2 After Game 1 Setback

TYLER, Texas — Texas A&M International wrapped up its 2026 regular season Sunday, falling in both games of a doubleheader at Texas-Tyler, 8-2 and 8-6, at Irwin Field.

Game 1: Texas-Tyler 8, TAMIU 2

The Dustdevils struck first in the third inning when Miley Vinton drew a bases-loaded walk to score Sessy Moreno for a 1-0 lead.

Texas-Tyler responded in the fourth with three runs to take control and added five more in the sixth to extend the lead and secure the win.

TAMIU totaled six hits in the opener, led by Kennedy Griego's 3-for-4 performance. Isabella Perez added a double, and the Dustdevils pushed across their second run in the sixth on a UT Tyler error.

Game 2: Texas-Tyler 8, TAMIU 6

In the nightcap, the Patriots jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second on a two-run home run.

TAMIU answered with a four-run third inning. Sessy Moreno and Victoria Espinoza each delivered RBI hits, while aggressive baserunning and a defensive miscue helped the Dustdevils take a 4-2 advantage.

Texas-Tyler regained the lead with three runs in the bottom of the third and added three more in the fifth to go up 8-4.

The Dustdevils made a late push in the seventh, scoring twice on RBI fielder's choices from Kennedy Griego and Queenandra Dunn, but the rally came up short in the 8-6 final.

Victoria Espinoza led TAMIU in Game 2 with two hits and an RBI, while Christen Mendez reached base three times and scored twice.

PLAYER SPOTLIGHT: Victoria Espinoza is the daughter of Flor Salazar and Cesar Espinoza. She has one brother, Caesar Daniel Espinoza. She is pursuing a degree of Biology.

Espinoza went 2-for-4 with an RBI in Game 2, delivering a key hit in TAMIU's four-run third inning and helping fuel the Dustdevils' offense in the regular-season finale.
