2017:
Garza had one of the best freshman campaigns in program history including a pair of top-five finishes. He was named the Heartland Conference Men’s Runner of the Week after finishing second at the Islander Splash covering the four-mile course in 20:12.1. He recorded a third place finish a week later at the UIW Invitational running 26:32.1 for 8,000-meters. He was the top finisher for the Dustdevils at the Heartland Conference Championships in 30^th (26:55.6). Finished 42^nd in his first collegiate race at the Norry Hersey Rice Invite running 21:21.04 over 6,250-meters. 

High School: Robstown High School
Eugene starred on the cross country, basketball and track & field team during his high school career.
 
Personal:
Eugene is the son of Eugene Sr. and Lori Garza and has three siblings, Lauren, Larissa and Erasmo. He chose to attend TAMIU because he had a strong connection with coach Rodriguez and really liked what the school had to offer. After graduating he plans on becoming a cross country coach. He likes to play basketball with his friends.
