LAREDO, Texas – A day after shattering three program records against Southwestern Adventist, Texas A&M International blew the Knights out again. The Dustdevils secured a seventh consecutive win via their 122-60 walloping of SWAU.
In the teams' first matchup on Saturday, TAMIU shot a record 18 3-pointers, dealt a record 42 assists and scored a record 137 points in the 137-67 win.
On Sunday, it was much of the same as Curtis Trotter and Jordan Clark rocked the rim for a combined 51 points. Trotter led the way with a career-high 27 points and nine assists; Clark slammed 24 points in 28 minutes. Vadel Faniel posted a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Deonnte Breedlove shot a perfect 4-for-4 from the 3-point line and was 5-for-5 from the field, scoring 15 points off the bench. Johnel Gray and William Wise both scored in double digits with 12 and 11 points, respectively.
As a team, TAMIU accurately fired 67.6 percent from the field and 66.7 percent from the 3-point line. They were also an astounding 75 percent from the free throw line. The Dustdevils dished 34 assists and turned the Knights over 23 times as a team, resulting in 42 points.
Seventy-six of the Dustdevils points came from post play and the bench was huge with 39 points. TAMIU led by as many as the final score's 62 points.
The Dustdevils will return to action in 11 days, on Dec. 19, to host Rogers State at the TAMIU Kinesiology and Convocation Building. The game will be the second leg of a doubleheader, with the women's teams playing at 5:30 p.m. and the men's game immediately following.
