Dustdevils Battle Wind, Deep Field at DBU Classic

TAMIU works through gusting wind at Golf Club of Dallas

{cke_protected}{C}{cke_protected}{C}{cke_protected}{C}DALLAS, Texas – Texas A&M International shaved seven strokes off its first round team score in the final round of the Dallas Baptist Invitational at the Golf Club of Dallas on Tuesday. After an opening round 351, the Dustdevils finished the 36-hole, 17-team tournament with a 695 (351-344) to finish in 17th place.

Begona Aranguren (81-89—170) led the Dustdevils with a tie for 75th. Five spots behind Aranguren, newcomer Hannah Jiao (86-87—173) finished in 80th. Both Abigail Palacios (91-85—176) and Sasha Linauskas (93-83—176) tied for 83rd and Mitzi Cantu (93-89—182) finished in 89th place.

The Dustdevils will return to action at the University of Texas at Brownsville on Nov. 1 in Brownsville, Texas.

 
FIRST ROUND

DALLAS, Texas – High winds howled through the Golf Club of Dallas as Texas A&M International and a field of 16 teams opened play at the Dallas Baptist Classic. The Dustdevils survived wind gusts of up to 40 miles per hour to finish the first round in 17th place as a team with a 351 (63-over par). TAMIU is 50 strokes behind tournament leader, Dallas Baptist (301).

The Dustdevils were led by Begona Aranguren (81), who tied for 41st with 18 holes left to play. Hannah Jiao (86) carded a tie for 77th after the first round, Abigail Palacios (91) sits alone in 87th place, and both Mitzi Cantu (93) and Sasha Linauskas (93) tied for 88th place.

The championship round of the DBU Classic tees off on Tuesday at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start.
