CLAREMORE, Okla. – It took an extra period to settle Texas A&M International University and Rogers State's Heartland Conference collision on Thursday night in Claremore, Okla. Despite a pair of double-doubles by Jessica Woo and Alexis Thomas and a game-high 22 points from Keiona Mathews, the Hillcats edged the Dustdevils, 73-68.
The Dustdevils lost for the sixth time in seven games away from the TAMIU Kinesiology and Convocation Building despite four players scoring in double digits. Matthews led the way with a 22-point, eight-rebound performance. Woo and Thomas scored an identical 13 points with 16 and 11 rebounds, respectively. Stella Ghazarian scored 11 points while playing all 45 minutes.
Matthews also played the entire game.
The Dustdevils led by six points at halftime, but the Hillcats mounted a 12-5 run through the second half's first six minutes. The score seesawed from there, knotting three times until the end of regulation. In overtime, the Hillcats jumped ahead with a 3-pointer with 3:37 left and never looked back.
The Dustdevils travel to Arkansas-Fort Smith for a 1 p.m. showdown on Jan. 10 before returning home to host St. Edward's on Jan. 15.
