Yaboe's 28 not enough to take down Patriots at home

LAREDO, Texas (December 31, 2016) - The Texas A&M International University Men's Basketball team hosted Dallas Baptist on Saturday afternoon. The Dustdevils were dealt a 76-92 loss, moving to 8-5 overall (2-1 Heartland Conference). 

First Half:
A quick start saw the Dustdevils take a 38-35 advantage into halftime. TAMIU shot 45% from the field, connecting on two shots from behind the arc. The Dustdevils gave up the lead one time in the first 20 minutes of action, pushing their largest lead to eight. Bunja Yaboe led TAMIU in the first half, putting up 13 points coupled with two steals and two rebounds. Jeremy Wright added 12 first-half points while Kenny Hatch added a team-high three rebounds. 

Second Half:
TAMIU was unable to hold Dallas Baptist at bay in the second half as the Patriots would shoot 53% from the field, including four three-point baskets. The Dustdevils struggled from the field, shooting 33%, connecting on just one shot from behind the arc. Yaboe added 15 points in the second half, shooting a team-high 9-11 from the stripe. Denzel Bellot and Hatch each added six points in the second half. 

The Dustdevils used the inside to their advantage, scoring 36 points in the paint. The Dustdevil bench added 25 points while TAMIU created 18 points off turnovers.

Head Coach Bryan Weakley commented after the game, " We did not play with an edge like we normally do and we did not handle adversity well. Hopefully this game is a wake up call that we can't take one game off."

The Dustdevils are back in action on Monday, January 2. TAMIU hosts Lubbock Christian University in the TAMIU KCB. Tip-off is set for 7:30pm CST.
