SAN ANTONIO, Texas (February 12, 2016) -- The Texas A&M International University Baseball team split a day-night double header Friday. The Dustdevils defeated Our Lady of the Lake 1-0 in game one but were dealt a 12-10 loss in game two. TAMIU moves to 2-6 overall.
Game 1: Dustdevils 1, Saints 0What was scheduled to be a seven inning game went nine innings in game one. In the top of the ninth
Alex Medina drove in the only run of the ballgame, giving TAMIU the 1-0 advantage. Dustdevil pitching shut down the Saints throughout, setting down OLLU 1-2-3 in the bottom of the inning.
Medina went 2-4 at the plate with 1 RBI.
Jeremy Valadez went 3-5 and scored the winning run.
Osvaldo Raya got the start, pitching 6 innings of shutout baseball. Raya allowed just four (4) hits, striking out a season high eight (8) batters.
Justin Diaz picked up the win, pitching the final three (3) innings. Diaz did not allow a hit and struck out three (3).
Game 2: Dustdevils 10, Saints 12A high scoring game two saw 22 combined runs. Down 12-5 after five (5) innings, the Dustdevils scored the final five (5) runs of the game. TAMIU pushed two (2) runs across the plate in the seventh before the final out was recorded.
Valadez and Medina continued their outstanding day at the plate, each going 2-4 with 2 RBI.
Nathan Halas and
William Mora both added two more RBI.
Jeffrey Morgan and
Mario Ramirez each finished with 1 RBI.
Daniel Edmondo faced two batters, striking out both.
Erick Garay threw 1.1 innings giving up five (5) hits, striking out one (1).
Dustin Labit pitched 3 innings, striking out three (3).
Nate Kowalik contributed 1 inning of relief, striking out three (3).
The Dustdevils finished the day with 28 hits and 11 runs. TAMIU will be back in action Saturday, taking on OLLU in two (2) seven (7) inning games. First pitch is set for 12 pm CST.
