Plenty of offense as TAMIU takes down RSU twice

LAREDO, Texas (February 26, 2016) – The Texas A&M International University Softball team opened Heartland Conference play with two wins on Friday. TAMIU improves to 11-12 overall (2-0 HC).
 
Game 1: Dustdevils 8, Hillcats 5
The Dustdevils jumped out to an early lead in game one, scoring seven runs in the first inning. Brenda Parnin got things started with a two-run home run, bringing in Taylor Vines. The Hillcats walked in two (2) runs on bases-loaded walks before Vines cleared the bases on a three (3) RBI triple. The eighth run crossed the plate on a passed ball. RSU put up two runs in the seventh, cutting the lead to three (3) before the final out was recorded.
 
Game 2: Dustdevils 6, Hillcats 1  
Parnin continued her great play at the plate in game two, driving in the first two (2) runs of the game on her second home run of the day. Krissy Sardelich drove in two (2) more runs with a single. After three (3) innings, TAMIU led 4-0. Vines lined an RBI single in the fourth to put the Dustdevils up 5-0, Parnin followed that with another RBI. The Hillcats pushed one (1) run across in the fifth but the Dustdevils lead proved enough for a second win on the day.
 
TAMIU tallied 14 runs on 14 hits. Parnin finished 3-7 with five (5) RBI and two (2) home runs. Vines went 6-8 with four (4) RBI and three (3) runs scored.
 
Delainy Thompson picked up her third win of the season, pitching a complete game in game one. Thompson allowed eight (8) hits, striking out three (3).  Krystal De La Cruz picked up her eighth win of 2016 in game two. De La Cruz went the distance, pitching seven (7) innings, allowing just one run. De La Cruz struck out seven (7) en route to the win.
 
Heartland Conference play continues for TAMIU on Saturday. The Dustdevils will close out the series against RSU with a single game, first pitch is slated for noon.
