LAREDO, Texas (February 27, 2016) – The Texas A&M International University Softball completed an opening weekend sweep of Rogers State University on Saturday. The Dustdevils open Heartland Conference play 3-0 and improve to 12-12 overall.
On the third at-bat of the ballgame
Brittany Mussett launched a two-run home run, putting TAMIU up 2-0.
Anna Parnin followed that up with an infield single, scoring
Alyssa Acuna from third. TAMIU would add runs in the second and third, putting the Dustdevils on top 5-0 after three.
Brenda Parnin led off the fourth with a solo home run, her third on the weekend. With the bases loaded
Anna Parnin sent a grand slam over the fence, putting TAMIU up by nine (9). The Hillcats added two in the fifth to cut the lead to seven (7) before Mussett hit an RBI single in the sixth to end the game. The Dustdevils drove in 11 runs on 14 hits en route to the win.
Anna Parnin went 2-4 at the plate, driving in five (5) RBI. Mussett finished 4-4 with three (3) RBI and one (1) run scored.
Taylor Vines recorded three (3) hits.
Delainy Thompson picked up her fourth win of the season. Thompson threw 4.1 innings, allowing just two (2) runs on three (3) hits. Thompson struck out four (4) Hillcats at the plate.
Krystal De La Cruz relieved Thompson, throwing 1.2 innings. De La Cruz didn't allow a hit, striking out two (2).
Heartland Conference play continues for TAMIU on March 4 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The Dustdevils will take on Oklahoma Christian University in a three (3) game set. First pitch is set for 5 pm.
