SAN ANGELO, Texas (February 5, 2016) -- The Texas A&M International Softball team played their second of six games in the ASU George McCorkel challenge Friday afternoon. The Dustdevils were dealt a 6-5 loss to the host, Angelo State Rams. The Dustdevils are now 1-3 in the 2016 campaign.
TAMIU took the lead early, scoring two (2) runs in the second inning. The Rams tied the score in the third before the Dustdevils took the lead back in the sixth. With one out,
Alyssa Acuna hit a sacrifice fly, scoring
Krystal Perez. The Rams responded with one in the bottom of the sixth. Neither team scored in the seventh, sending the game to extra innings. With the International Tie-Breaker in effect Brittany Musset was placed on second.
Cassie DeLeon singled to center, scoring Mussett from second. After a wild pitch DeLeon advanced to third, scoring on
Chelsea Capello sacrifice fly. Despite taking the lead back, the Rams scored three (3) runs in the bottom of the eighth, leading to the final score of 6-5.
DeLeon went 3-4 at the plate, recording one (1) RBI and one (1) run scored.
Delainy Thompson started for the Dustdevils, pitching 5.2 innings. Thompson allowed just one (1) earned run on seven (7) hits.
TAMIU will continue play Saturday. The Dustdevils will take on Northwestern Oklahoma State. First pitch is set for 10:30 am CST.
