SAN ANGELO, Texas (February 6, 2016) -- The Texas A&M International University Softball team finished Saturday with two wins under their belt. After defeating Northwestern Oklahoma earlier in the day, the Dustdevils defeated Adams State 6-3. The Dustdevils are 3-1 in the Geroge McCorkel Challenge and 3-3 overall this season.
Each team produced a run in the first inning before the Dustdevils built their lead. In the second inning
Brenda Parnin hit a sacrifice fly to center, scoring sister
Anna Parnin. The second run of the inning came when
Brittany Mussett lined an RBI single to right, scoring
Krystal Perez. TAMIU picked up the scoring again in the fifth inning. Mussett hit an RBI double to right center scoring
Brenda Parnin. With the bases loaded
Alyssa Acuna drove in
Kimberly Sanchez from third. Both teams would add one more run in the sixth, leading to the final score of 6-3.
Mussett finished 2-4 at the plate with two (2) RBI, while
Taylor Vines went 2-4 with two (2) runs scored.
Brenda Parnin, Acuna, and
Cassie DeLeon each finished with one RBI.
Delainy Thompson went the distance for TAMIU, pitching 7 innings. Thompson allowed just two earned runs on seven (7) hits, recording four (4) strikeouts.
The Dustdevils continue play in the George McCorkle Challenge Sunday. TAMIU will take on Adams State for the third time this weekend, first pitch is set for 12:45 pm. The entire schedule for the challenge can be seen by clicking
