LAREDO, Texas (March 12, 2016) – The Texas A&M International University Baseball team opened Heartland Conference action on Saturday. The Dustdevils kicked off conference play against UT- Permian Basin. TAMIU took game one 8-5 and took a 5-11 defeat in game two. The Dustdevils are 9-11 overall (1-1 HC).
Game 1: TAMIU 8, UTPB 5The Dustdevils came out strong in game one, Ian Acosta drove in the first run on a sacrifice fly, scoring William Mora. The Falcons pushed two (2) runs across in the fourth. TAMIU responded with six (6) runs in the bottom of the inning. Alexander Cabezas was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded for the first run. Acosta and Alex Medina came across on an errant throw home. Abel Aguilar and Jeremy Valadez drove in one (1) run each on RBI singles before Mora was walked with the bases loaded. TAMIU would add a run in the fifth, leading to the final score of 8-5. Five Dustdevils recorded RBI's in game one, Medina went 2-4 at the plate. Osvaldo Raya earned the win in game one. Raya threw 4.2 innings, striking out two (2). Justin Diaz relived Raya, throwing 2.1 innings, allowing just two (2) hits. Game 2: TAMIU 5, UTPB 11TAMIU got on the board first in game two. Jeffery Morgan lined an RBI single scoring Erasmo Gonzalez Jr. Mario Ramirez drove in two (2) runs in the seventh, cutting the lead to two (2). Aguilar cut the lead to one (1) wearing a pitch with the bases loaded. Morgan went 2-4 at the plate with an RBI. Ramirez had one hit with two (2) RBI and a run scored. Eduardo Rodriguez took the loss, throwing seven (7) innings. Rodriguez allowed just one (1) earned run, striking out two (2). Erick Garay threw the final two innings for TAMIU, allowing no earned runs on four (4) hits. The Dustdevils close out the three game series on Sunday at Uni-trade Stadium. First pitch is set for 1 pm CST.
